LINCOLNVILLE — Police said that a man who reportedly entered a Lincolnville home Friday evening and attacked the woman who was inside has blamed the incident on some “moldy marijuana” he had smoked.

“He was out of his head, ranting and raving,” Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning about 50-year-old David Klim, who was arrested after the attack. A toxicology test was still not completed, so police do not know for sure what, if any, substance Klim had in his system.

Klim reportedly had been at a neighboring house on North Cobbtown Road, where the residents who knew him were trying get him under control when he broke away at about 7 p.m. and went next door. He didn’t know the people in that house, which belongs to an employee of the Maine State Police, Trafton said. The police employee was not home at the time but his wife and his 12 or 13-year-old daughter were.

Klim allegedly attacked the wife, choking and punching her, while her daughter made a 911-call for help. Deputies were able to arrive quickly and had Klim restrained within 10 minutes of that call, the chief deputy said. The woman who was attacked was injured, but did not need to be taken to a hospital for treatment.

Trafton said that Klim has no previous criminal record in Maine, though is on probation from a prior charge or conviction that took place in Pennsylvania. It wasn’t clear Monday morning what type of charge his probation stems from, the chief deputy said.

Klim was to be arraigned later Monday or Tuesday on aggravated assault and aggravated criminal trespass charges, Trafton said, adding that the attack was frightening.

“We’re not supposed to worry about stuff like that in our homes,” he said.
