1928 – 2013

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Mortimer P. Beckler, 85, a resident of Gainesville, Ga., formerly of Livermore and Orrs Island, passed away Tuesday, April 30, at his home.

He was born March 22, 1928, in Livermore, the son of Earle H. Beckler and Beatrice (Partridge) Beckler. Mort was a 1946 graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner and continued his education at Auburn Maine School of Commerce, graduating in 1950. On Sept. 2, 1950, in Monmouth, he married his wife of 62 years, Alma Brown of Blaine.

Mort worked in the insurance business for Patrons Oxford Mutual Insurance Company in Auburn, and in the assigned risk department for the State of Connecticut. He later owned and operated Maple Lane Golf Course in Livermore, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Auburn, Maine Insurance Agents Association, Tranquil Masonic Lodge of Auburn, Kora Shrine Center of Lewiston, Scottish Rites, Lodge of Perfection, Rose Crown and the United Way. Albert was also a board member of Chamber of Commerce and trustee at St. Mary’s Hospital and Auburn Mutual Savings Bank, which later became People’s Bank.

He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Beckler of Gainesville, Ga.; his son, William Scott Beckler and his wife, Rita, of Milton, Ga.; grandchildren, Kendra Beckler, William Scott Beckler II, Brenda Beckler and Thomas Beckler; and his sister, Nellie Harmon of Suffield, Conn.

He was predeceased by his son, Bruce Michael Beckler; his sisters, Theresa Stevens, Verna Warye, Eleanor Pulver and Mariam Beckler; and his brothers, Frank, Charles, Edward, Ronald and Earle Beckler Jr.
