WILTON — The Wilton CareerCenter will hold a job fair for veterans from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 9, at its office at 865 U.S. Route 2E in Wilton. The general public is also welcome to attend.

More than a dozen employers will be recruiting for open positions.

The following businesses are scheduled to participate: Care and Comfort, At Work, Maine Wood Concepts, Maine Staffing, Barclay Card, Assistance Plus, Bonney Staffing, Army Recruiting, MAS Home Care, Jarden’s Plastic Solutions, Carbonite, Walmart (Farmington, Skowhegan and Mexico), the Department of Transportation and T-Mobile.

Maine Department of Labor Commissioner Jeanne Paquette reminded job seekers to be prepared to make a strong first impression.

“It’s a good idea to dress professionally,” she noted. “Don’t forget to bring multiple copies of your resume and be prepared to have an ‘interview-like’ conversation with employers to discuss your skills and abilities.”

The job fair is sponsored by the Wilton CareerCenter, the Maine Department of Labor, the Central Western Maine Workforce Investment Board and Western Maine Community Action.

“I encourage our veterans to take advantage of this job fair and the free programs our CareerCenters offer. You have earned these services,” Gov. Paul LePage said. “The staff of the CareerCenters can assist veterans in applying for training programs and in translating what they did in the armed forces into what employers are looking for on a resume.”

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offers a variety of workshops and services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O’Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
