AUBURN — A Minot woman was injured Thursday afternoon when her car slid off Garfield Road and struck a tree hard enough to split the vehicle in two.
Amber Brown, 25, was being treated at a Lewiston hospital Thursday night.
Police and rescue crews were called to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. Witnesses said the car was heading toward Minot when the driver lost control and skidded off the road.
When crews arrived, Brown was the only occupant inside the wreckage. She had to be extricated from the Volkswagen Golf, police said.
Brown was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. At the request of the patient, no information was being released about her condition Thursday night.
Police said early indications were that speed was a factor in the crash. When emergency crews arrived, the car was in two pieces, a witness said. The passenger’s side appeared to have been peeled open and the front of the car had separated from the rear.
The crash occurred a short distance from Stevens Mill Road.
