AUBURN — Globe Manufacturing Co. announced its sister company, Falcon Performance Footwear in Auburn, was awarded the 2013 Governor’s Award for Business Excellence. The award was presented at a ceremony in Augusta recently. Falcon Performance Footwear is a client of the Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

The Governor’s Award for Business Excellence recognizes that business excellence is epitomized by a balanced combination of manufacturing and service excellence, and a steadfast commitment to employees, customers, and the community. The award was created in 1991 and is presented to for-profit companies that demonstrate a consistently high level of attentiveness and dedication in these areas. Falcon was one of 33 nominations submitted for a variety of businesses across Maine.

Falcon employs 55 people at the Auburn facility. In the last five years, the company has invested significantly in its capacity to manufacture American-made footwear through lean manufacturing and producing components that were previously only available from offshore suppliers.

Falcon was established in 1963 and has been making boots in Maine for 50 years, focusing its business on firefighter and industrial safety footwear in 2006. As a Globe partner, the company manufactures 12 styles of boots that are SEI certified to National Fire Protection Association standards.
