A closer listen will soon reveal that instead of the usual fare of Blue Ridge mountain cabin homes, a lot of the songs are about loons, moose, North Pond hermits, and other Maine phenomena. That’s because writing songs about Maine is a deeply felt passion with Stan Keach, the guitar-playing bandleader.

The Maranacook String Band is a youthful band; most of the members of the band are still in their teens. The band was born in the halls of Maranacook Community High School three years ago.

Opening for the Maranacook String Band will be The Loons, an a cappella singing group directed by Don Petersen of Rome. Other members of the Loons are Laura Grams of Vienna, Sue Greenan of Rome, Maisie Libby of Mt. Vernon, and Glenn Baxter of Belgrade.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults; $5 for under 12. Refreshments will be available for sale. Door prizes will be given. This concert will benefit the Maine Lakes Resource Center. The Center For All Seasons is on Route 27, on the shore of Great Pond, just south of Belgrade Lakes Village.
