RUMFORD — Shirley K. Jalbert, 78, died Tuesday, May 14, at her residence on Davis Street, Rumford.

She was born in Rumford, Feb. 23, 1935, the daughter of George and Mary Ann (Arsenault) Burns and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1955. She had worked at Diamond Match Co. of Peru. She also altered clothing locally and worked in surrounding school kitchens.

Shirley dearly loved her family, home, reading, writing, composing hymns, floral arranging, decorating and doll collecting.

She was married in Rumford, Sept. 20, 1958, to Robert R. Jalbert, who died in Rumford on April 1, 2011.

Survivors include a son, Michael A. Jalbert of Northfield, N.H.; a daughter, Brenda M. Curtis of Roxbury; grandchildren, Thomas C. Virgin and wife, Lisa, of West Peru and Tiffany M. White and husband, Joshua, of Mexico. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; and brothers, John and Timothy Burns.
