The Maine Marimba Ensemble performs captivating, complex poly-rhythmic arrangements of traditional and contemporary Zimbabwean music on a spectacular set of homemade marimbas. The largest of the marimbas is so big that the person playing it needs to stand on a bench to reach it. The music is amazing and not to be missed. It’s joyous dance music like you’ve never experienced.

Maine Marimba Ensemble’s musicians from Portland are: Rob Cimitile, Chris Fletcher, Elliot Heeschen, Peter Himmer, Zebulon Kelley, Matthew Wasowski and builder of the marimbas, Jacob Wolff; and from Somersworth, New Hampshire: Kevin Caron.

The Tuesday music evenings happen rain or shine and are held at the church across the street in case of rain.

This summer’s line up of old favorites includes Dr. Becky with the Grinners and Pickers; Pam Weeks with T-Acadie; Chicks with Sticks; as well as some new and fun musical groups. There will also be music for the 4th of July celebration.

The summer series ends with a sing-a-long led by Jerry Ellis on the piano accompanied by Merredith Bigg. The generosity of various businesses and individuals, along with the passing of the hat, keep the music rolling.
