1937 – 2013

WATERVILLE — Fay F. Watson, 75, of Poland, died on Sunday, May 12, at Thayer Hospital in Waterville.

She was born in Lewiston on June 11, 1937, the daughter of Donald Trafford and Edith (McCleary) Trafford. Fay attended the Empire School and the Minot Corner School, graduating from Edward Little High School, Class of 1955. She joined the Army after high school and served in Japan.

She was married to Jerry Norman Watson on Dec. 11, 1960.

Fay worked at the Lewiston Raceway, Maine Motel and Cabins, Ames, Gould and Scammon, Darling’s Auto and Lee Auto. She also was an Avon Representative.

Fay had many hobbies, including knitting and crocheting beautiful afghans and clothing for pillow dolls. She also made very nice beaded Christmas ornaments, bracelets and little angels. Many evenings were spent playing cards with Joe, Chuckie and Lois. Fay absolutely adored her cats, Maurice and Muffin. They were her kids.

She also loved her flower gardens and watching the birds in her backyard. Now who is going to pick all of the blackberries with her sister, Bea?

Fay was in long-term relationships with Douglas Salley and Melvin Nelson. Those years riding behind Buzz on that motorcycle, along with Jim and Marcia, Mac, Ronnie and Theo, were memories to never be forgotten. Whenever she was able, she would attend Candy’s barrel racing events, trying her best to be there for her daughter to cheer her on.

Surviving are her children, Norman J. Watson (Bettina) of Saugerties, N.Y., Candy L. Bishop (Steve Barton) of Porter, Jessie J. Watson (Dawn) of Middle Grove, N.Y. and Ray L. Watson (Karen) of New York; sisters, Beatrice Bouffard of Lewiston, Lois Oberg of Two Harbors, Minn., and Marcia Cavers (William) of Poland; brother, Maitland “Joe” Trafford (Charlene Teras) of New Gloucester; stepmother, Virginia Trafford of Center Conway, N.H.; half-sisters, Sandra Newton of Tempe, Ariz., Patricia Jacobson (William) of Kelsey, Minn., Donna Ward, (Darryl) of Hiram, Deborah Payton, (Harry) of Salida, Colo. and Darlene Leavitt, (Clayton) of Center Conway, N.H.; half-brothers, Donald Trafford (Terri) of West Baldwin, Darryl Trafford (Susan) of Limington, Dean Trafford of North Conway, N.H., and Donald Trafford (Shelley) of Scarborough; grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick, Daniel and Timo Watson, Octavia Bishop and friend, Chelsea Jane, Casey Bishop and friend, Carlin Berger, Adam Barber and friend, Rachel Worthing, Anastasia, Courtney, Daryl and William Watson, Ray, John and Kaitlyn Watson, and Steve’s children, Mitchell and Stacie Barton; and great-grandchildren, Payton and Braxton. They were so cherished, and she loved having them come for a visit.

Fay was predeceased by both of her parents; grandparents, Roy and Ethel Trafford McCleary; in-laws, Norman and Nathelene Watson; ex-husband, Jerry Watson; partners, Douglas Salley and Melvin Nelson; brothers-in-law, William Bouffard, Dennis Oberg and James Watson; and sister-in-law, Ruth Trafford.

A very special friend, Greta Chabot, receives our love and thanks for all that you have done for Fay and with her for so many years. You are an angel in our eyes.
