LEWISTON — Jane T. Chester, 82, passed away Thursday, May 23, at Montello Manor, surrounded by family.

She was born in Calais, May 3, 1931, the daughter of Wilfred and Katherine Murphy Mullen. Jane was a registered nurse and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland. She was a delivery room supervisor and was employed at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Knox County General Hospital in Rockland, Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta and Bath Memorial Hospital in Bath, as well as St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, N.J.

Jane was also a professional piano player and was a member of Jeff Grosser’s Ragtime Razcals of New England for three years. She played piano and enjoyed music her entire life, and could learn to play any song by ear.

Jane was well-known for the beautiful flowers and shrubs at her Wiscasset home, where she lived for 42 years with her husband, John. She enjoyed bird watching and feeding, gardening and landscape design, watercolor painting and writing poetry. She also enjoyed spending time at home with her husband, their dog, Joey, and with her children and grandchildren.

Jane is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, John D. Chester of Lewiston; her sister, Katherine and husband, Fred Verrill, of Rockland; her son, John R. Chester of San Diego, Calif.; her son, Michael Chester of Bristol, R.I.; her daughter, Jeannette and husband, John Fusaro; grandchildren, Jacob, Joseph and Julia Fusaro, all of Lisbon; her daughter, Susan and husband, C.J. Haldeman, of West Lafayette, Ind.; as well as her niece, nephews and grandchildren.
