Gardening workshop to focus on herbs

NORWAY — The Alan Day Community Garden is offering free gardening workshops throughout the summer. “Growing Culinary Herbs” will be the topic at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5.

Kristen Perry, director of horticulture at the McLaughlin Garden, will present information about growing and using a selection of herbs. The workshop will be given regardless of weather conditions either outside or in the garden’s barn.

The public is welcome to attend and explore the many aspects of the Alan Day Community Garden. These include rows in which local folks plant their own crops as well as a water catchment system, composting and a greenhouse.

Permaculture design principles are used to focus on sustainable community development and regional self-sufficiency in working toward local food production.

The garden is located at 26 Whitman St. For more information, visit www.alandaygarden.wordpress.com or call 743-2423.
