PARIS — A Mexico man pleaded guilty in Oxford County Superior Court on Friday to his role in a heroin trafficking operation.
Daniel W. Richard, 27, pleaded to two counts of unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs. Four other trafficking charges were dismissed, as were charges of illegal importation of drugs, endangering the welfare of a child and one count of violation of condition of release.
Richard was sentenced to eight years with all but three suspended. He’ll serve three years probation, during which he’ll be subject to random searches and testing to ensure he is not using or possessing drugs. He must also pay $800 in fines.
In July 2012, Richard was arrested in connection with others accused of trafficking heroin to the River Valley region. Special Agent Tony Milligan of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency told the Sun Journal at the time that more than 450 doses were seized in drug operations in Bethel and Rumford, with a street value of about $12,000.
The arrests were part of a larger investigation into heroin trafficking in the River Valley area.
