SOUTH PARIS — Senior pitcher Ryan Godin had a two-hit outing in four innings of work as Oxford Hills invoked the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning with a 10-0 victory over Hampden Academy for the KVAC championship.

The Vikings (15-2) had five consecutive hits in their five-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Dalton Rice and a two-run double from Jordan Croteau.

Matt Closson had one of the Broncos’ (14-3) two hits with a single in the first inning. He also produced a deep fly ball later which was caught shy of the fence.

Girls’ lacrosse

Messalonskee 18, Lewiston 10

WATERVILLE — Kristy Bernatchez peppered Lewiston with five goals and Allison Fischange dropped in another four as Messalonskee made off with the KVAC girls’ lacrosse title wth an 18-10 victory over Lewiston on Saturday.

Messalonskee held a 9-3 lead after the second half before Lewiston reeled off seven goals in the second half. The Blue Devils’ Kelsey Dumond led the team with four goals and three assists. Jess Cote punched in three goals.

Sydney Gagne score three goals for Messalonskee, which outshot the Blue Devils, 21-16.

Rowing

Bates women earn NCAA silver

INDIANAPOLIS — Bates didn’t win the big one, but once again did the next best thing Saturday morning at the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships, finishing as the national runner-up for the fifth consecutive year behind rival Williams.

Bates’ first varsity eight (WV8) also claimed the silver medal for the fifth straight time in its grand final.

Bates stood in second place over the entire second half of the race, as Williams steadily inched farther ahead in the course. The Bobcats finished the 2,000-meter course at Eagle Creek Park in 7:22.874, 2.232 seconds behind the Ephs and 2.718 seconds ahead of third-place William Smith. Trinity (7:27.968), Washington (Md.) College (7:29.313) and Wellesley (7:40.614) trailed behind.

The final team scoring had Williams in the lead with 42, followed by Bates with 35, Trinity with 31, William Smith with 28, Wellesley with 21 and Washington with 20.
