AUBURN — William J. Rogers American Legion Post 153 is proud to be one of the many contributors to the Auburn PAL program. Paul R. Bernard, Post 153 public relations officer, delivered 24 pounds of new custom pizza dough premix for the cooking program and 300 packets of vegetable, herbs and flower seeds for the gardening program to Liz Allen, Auburn Police Planner.

The American Legion has been supporting youth and children programs since its inception, such as American Legion Boys State and Boys Nation, American Legion Baseball, High School Oratorical Contest, Boy Scouts of America, Junior Shooting Sports, scholarships, American Legacy Scholarship, Chaplains Program, Citizenship and Naturalization, Children’s Miracle Network, Ronald McDonald House Charities, American Legion Child Welfare Foundation, Special Olympics, Children’s Organ Transplant Association and others, according to Bernard.

The PAL program is based on the conviction that young people, if they are reached early enough, can develop strong positive attitudes towards police officers in their journey through life toward the goal of maturity and good citizenship.

PAL needs additional help, said Bernard. They have a wish list that includes bookcases, kitchen utensils, restaurant-quality eating utensils, plates, glasses, dish towels, garden hoses, garden tools, shovels, rakes, brooms, a gas grill, soccer nets and balls, basketballs, volleyball and net, horseshoe set, badminton, cleaning supplies and more. This is a great opportunity for any nonprofit or business to participate in helping the youth of the community. Anyone interested in donating to the PAL program can contact Liz Allen at [email protected] or at 207-333-6650, ext. 2070.
