AUGUSTA — Members of the Maine Army National Guard were notified on Sunday that an active duty soldier from Topsham had died in Afghanistan, Peter Rogers, spokesman for the Maine Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management, said Tuesday.
The deceased is Corey Garver.
“We were called by Fort Drum, New York, on Sunday to do a notification for an active duty soldier with ties to Maine,” Rogers said.
The notification team was sent to Garver’s home.
“When our guys got there, they found out … the next of kin had moved out of state,” Rogers said.
Rogers had little information about Garver, and the soldier’s death is not yet listed on the Department of Defense website.
Garver lists Topsham as his hometown on his Facebook page and Fort Campbell, Ky. as where he lived. Fort Campbell is home to six different military units.
