SKOWHEGAN (AP) — Prosecutors say an 11-year-old girl charged with manslaughter of an infant remains incompetent to stand trial.
The Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/14X2GRN) reported that a judge’s order this week is expected to say the Fairfield girl’s detention and conditions of release are unchanged, pending further discussion of her ability to stand trial.
William Stokes, chief of the criminal division at the attorney general’s office, said the girl has undergone recent forensic examinations. He said the sense is that the girl, Kelli Murphy, will become competent for trial over time.
The baby died last summer while staying at the home of Murphy’s mother, who was babysitting her.
The infant’s mother was told her daughter died from suffocation and that she had trace amounts of a medication that Murphy was taking at the time in her system.
