ORONO — The University of Maine 2013–2014 men’s ice hockey schedule, announced Monday, includes a Frozen Fenway game and a trip to new Hockey East member Notre Dame.

“I am looking forward to our 2013-2014 schedule,” Maine head coach Red Gendron said in a news release. “Our slate features five teams and at least nine games against teams which completed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. We return to the Florida College Classic for the 14th time (and) will attempt to win our third straight title.”

Maine will face Boston University at Fenway Park on Jan. 11, 2014.

“This experience will be a great one for our student-athletes, staff and fans, playing an outdoor game in a historic ballpark,” Gendron said.

Early in February, the Black Bears travel to Hockey East newcomer Notre Dame for their first league games against the Fighting Irish.

With the addition of Notre Dame to Hockey East, conference schools will play only two league games against each other squad this season.

Maine takes to the ice for the first time when it hosts Dalhousie in an exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 6. The Black Bears open the regular season when they travel to St. Lawrence for a pair of games Oct. 11 and 12. Maine then returns home to host Bentley and UMass, in a pair of non-conference games, to end October.

In the Florida College Classic, Maine will face Princeton the first day and then will match up with either New Hampshire or Cornell the second night.

The Fenway game will be Maine’s second. Maine played New Hampshire two years ago in front of 38,456 fans.

Maine returns 18 letterwinners from last season, including six of its top nine scorers. Among those returning are Devin Shore, who led the team in scoring with six goals and 20 assists for 26 points. Blueliner Ben Hutton added four goals and 11 assists for 15 points. Ryan Lomberg and Steven Swavely each tallied 14 points.

All three goalies return, including Martin Ouellette, who finished 9-12-8 with a 2.42 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.
