BANGOR — U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud has raised more than $300,000 in little more than two weeks since announcing an exploratory committee to consider a run for governor.

The preliminary fundraising total covers the period from the day Michaud formed his exploratory committee on June 13 until midnight on June 30.

David Farmer, Michaud’s spokesman, said Michaud has raised more in 17 days “than the sitting governor raised in the first 17 months of his campaign.”

The governor’s next reporting deadline is later this month. Brent Littlefield, LePage’s senior political adviser, said he fully expects Michaud and independent Eliot Cutler to try to raise more than LePage but notes LePage won in 2010 despite being outspent.

Michaud has not set a timeline for a final decision on his candidacy.
