I can finally write a letter to congratulate those Maine lawmakers who worked together to take care of the state’s business.

Their decision to override the governor’s veto on the state budget shows that they care deeply about the “state of the state” and us property taxpayers who simply cannot afford a property tax hike because of denied revenue sharing.

I know the budget bill has issues that go far beyond the points I just made, but with a spirit of cooperation, those issues can be resolved.

Now that we know we can get things done without the governor, let’s look at expanded health care again. This bill was amended many times to satisfy both sides. When it was finally written, it was a good, common-sense bill with safety nets that the governor should have embraced.

Legislators deserve congratulations for a job well done.
