BANGOR — Police have identified a man killed while participating in the Independence Day parade in downtown Bangor on Thursday.
Wallace Fenlason, 63, of Holden died instantly when an antique firetruck rolled on top of him, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Friday.
Felanson was driving a 1941 tractor on Water Street during the Brewer-Bangor parade when the 1930 Hose 5 Museum firetruck driven by Bangor firefighter Patrick Heathcote, 29, of Levant rolled onto the tractor, the sergeant said.
The parade was re-routed down Water Street because of a standoff on Park Street in downtown Bangor in which a Detroit man was arrested.
Bangor police Officer Jim Dearing is investigating the accident, along with a Maine State Police reconstruction team, Edwards said.
Anyone with video of the accident or those who witnessed it are urged to call Bangor police Detective Cliff Worcester at 947-7382.
