HARPSWELL — A 45-year-old Brunswick woman was rescued from rocks beneath the Cliff Trail on Sunday evening after a four-hour effort by game wardens and deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Theresa Desjardins was hiking the Cliff Trail with her 15-year-old son on Sunday when the two became separated. Her son found his way out of the woods and flagged down a motorist at approximately 9 p.m., according to a release from the sheriff’s department.
A warden from the Maine Warden Service sent out two search dog teams find the teen’s mother. After about an hour, the warden located Desjardins on the shore beneath the trail. The woman had climbed down the cliff and did not feel comfortable climbing back up, a spokeswoman from the sheriff’s office said Monday.
Desjardins, who had “previous medical issues,” was not injured, but was dehydrated and scared, according to the release.
Deputies, who had difficulty extricating Desjardins due to the dark, the location and the rising tide, eventually opted to help her hike out.
Desjardins was not injured and has returned home, according to the release.
