Bands to play at scenic overlook

RANGELEY — God of Wonders 2013 will take place starting at noon Saturday, July 13, across from the Noyes Scenic Overlook, Route 17.

Music will be provided by the Founded Trio and Band, Angela and Josh from The Elect, Blue Mirth Band, Country Trio, Fishers of Men, Troy Pingree, Robbie Schmersal and Tammy Schmersal-Burgess.

Garden Club to visit Welch plots

FARMINGTON — Janalee Welch, well-known artist from 146 Middle St. in Farmington, will open her gardens to Mt. Blue Area Garden Club members at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16.

Welch’s garden begins at the front of her home with deep purple clematis, continues around the side with succulents, ending in the rear with lilies, hostas, ferns and many more perennials. There is also a raised vegetable and herb garden.

Members are asked to bring a bag lunch, a chair and a plant to swap. Hostesses Nancy Lewis, Laurie Patten and Pat Stillman will provide desserts and a beverage. A short business meeting will follow the garden tour.

Scholarship presentation

WILTON — The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will present scholarship awards to four students at their monthly board meeting Tuesday, July 16, at the Wilton Farm & Home Museum.

The scholarships are given annually in memory of past board member David S. Robie, who was an integral part of developing the scholarship fund.

July 17 canning workshops

FARMINGTON — University of Maine Cooperative Extension will hold two canning/freezing workshops on Wednesday, July 17, at the Extension office, 138 Pleasant St., Suite 1. The first workshop will begin at noon and end at 3 p.m. and the second workshop will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Registration is $15 and must be paid in advance.

The minimum number needed to hold the class is eight and the maximum per class is 15.

Learn the basics behind home food preservation and food safety. The course will consist of insight into how canning and freezing function as preservation methods. This is a hands-on workshop where attendees will be canning mixed berry jam. Bring a pot holder.

Kingfield Festival Days is July 18-21

KINGFIELD — Kingfield Festival Days will run Thursday through Sunday, July 18-21. The theme for this year’s events is “Only in Maine…”

Events will include a pudding/pie eating contest, an amateur photo contest, a floral contest, a “chowdah” cookoff, the annual Kingfield Festival Days Parade, as well as many other events. Admission is free.

Fire Auxiliary bake sale July 20

FAYETTE — The Fayette Fire Auxiliary will have their Annual Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Fayette Fire Station. There will be pies, breads and more, as well as RADA products for sale.

Prime rib, lobster dinner

VIENNA — A lobster or prime rib dinner will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, as a fund-raiser for North Vienna United Methodist Church, 572 Tower Road. Seatings will be at 5 and 6:30 p.m.

A single lobster dinner will be $20, twin lobster dinner $25, prime rib dinner $20. Tickets are available in advance only and will be sold until Aug. 7.

Meals include lobster or prime rib, garden salad, corn on the cob, homemade bread, blueberry pie or gingerbread and drink.
