PORTLAND — Portland police are investigating gunfire in which one of the bullets nearly hit a sleeping child.
Police canvassed a neighborhood Friday for witnesses and videotape footage that might yield clues. They don’t believe the sleeping child or her father were targeted.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/15Q0Ss6 ) says police found a hole in the siding where a single bullet, probably from a handgun, pierced the wall on the side of the house. Inside, it narrowly missed the 9-year-old and her father in a bedroom.
Police were alerted to the gunfire at 4:30 a.m. Friday. Alex Endy, who has three children, told police he heard one gunshot, followed by two more in rapid succession.
