FARMINGTON — A Norridgewock man pleaded not guilty Thursday to robbing Tranten’s Too in Kingfield on June 18, 2012.

His bail also was lowered.

Kaleb Bowring, 20, also pleaded not guilty in Franklin County Superior Court to stealing $800 in the robbery.

Bowring and co-defendant Matthew Santamore, 22, of Vassalboro were indicted on the charges of felony robbery and misdemeanor theft on July 8.

Bowring’s case was set for the trial list on Sept. 16.

Assistant District Attorney Joshua Robbins told Judge Nancy Carlson, acting in designation of a superior court justice, that an agreement was reached on bail for Bowring.

It is $1,500 cash bail and a stringent state pretrial contract, Robbins said. He had been held on $50,000 cash or $250,000 worth of property in connection to the case since his arrest.

“In effect, it places him under house arrest,” he said.

Bowring is scheduled to be released from the Somerset County Jail in Madison on July 31. He had been serving a six-month probation revocation that began in April when he was arrested.

Among his conditions once he is released is to have no contact with Santamore and not to go to any Tranten’s store, Robbins said.

Bowring and Santamore were arrested after Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Maine State Police conducted a joint investigation.

Bowring is accused of robbing the store using a pellet handgun, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said in May.

About $800 was taken in the robbery.

Santamore is accused of driving the getaway vehicle, Nichols previously said.

Santamore had also been at Somerset County Jail when he was arrested serving a probation violation on an unrelated case.

A conviction on the robbery charge carries up to 30 years in prison and a maximum $50,000 fine.
