The Maine Maniacs 14-U girls basketball team improved to 2–1 in Pool Play at the U.S. Junior Nationals in Washington, D.C. with a 52-21 win over the Maryland Heat on Friday night.
Eimily Jacques of Edward Little led Maine with 11 points and nine rebounds. Sadie Nelson of Windham scored nine points in a balanced attack and recorded seven rebounds and three steals. Dom Lewis of Lawrence scored eight points and dished out four assists, while South Portland’s Maddie Hasson addedseven points and seven rebounds. Mt. Blue’s Caitlin Kane netted five points along with five steals. Lake Region guard Spencer True and Kane held the Heat’s top player and point guard Mandy Lyons to five points on the night. Margaret Hatch of Greely and Ashley Howe of Thornton Academy each added 6 points for the Maniacs.
The Maniacs finish Pool Play Saturday afternoon against the Fredericksburg Focus.
