LEWISTON — Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice presented the Robert D. Turcotte Award to three individuals at the spring Volunteer Recognition events held in Auburn, Farmington and Bridgton.

The award is presented in honor of Robert Turcotte, an Auburn resident, who was treasurer of the Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Board of Directors from 1978 until his death in 1982. Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice gives this award in acknowledgement of outstanding contributions to the promotion of home health care.

The 2013 award recipients are:

Cindy Boyd of Mechanic Falls, a volunteer since November 2011, has supported patients and their families enrolled in all Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice programs including Hospice, Intermittent/Home Care and Community Care Team. She has supported 11 patients and their families, providing respite, companionship, grocery shopping, and transportation. She has visited patients in very poor areas of town, living in substandard conditions. She has embraced patients who have no one, and in some cases, those who are suffering from mental illness. Boyd has a gift for making people feel comfortable and valued. 

Dan Campbell of Auburn began his involvement with the HH 5K & Remembrance Walk in 2010 at the request of a planning committee member. In that first year as race director he secured a new location that would allow for the event to double in participation. With Campbell’s experience, connections, energy and understanding of such an event, he was able to build relationships with Central Maine Community College, the Auburn Police Department, Auburn city officials and neighbors along the course route. With his support and commitment, the HH 5K & Remembrance Walk has been and will be a success.

Moe Morin of Lewiston began volunteering with the agency in October of 2006 as visiting volunteer for home care patients. During that time, he filled many needs. Most recently, he helped a patient fulfill her dream when no one else was available. This is best shared in the patient’s own words from a letter sent to the agency:

“To my mind there is no other man in the world as caring and compassionate as Mr. Morin. I could not begin to tell you the many things he did for me, from wheeling me all over New York, to helping me in and out of cabs, airplanes and buildings. He took many, many pictures of my experience at the theater, loaded them on my computer so now I will always have these as great memories of my trip. I cannot in these few words tell you how blessed I am to have Maurice, for his companionship, sense of humor and all-around goodness.”
