RANGELEY —   Rangeley will hold its own ROAR event on Saturday, Aug. 24.

After months of planning and preparing by a team of professionals, including personal trainers and support staff, the Rangeley Fitness Center is hosting the first Rangeley Outdoor Adventure Run (ROAR), and Children’s Mini-ROAR, an outdoor, family event designed to challenge physical and mental strength along a 5K or 10K walk/run.

There will be rugged terrain, and individual tests of strength that include bear crawls, sit-ups, rock-carries, push-ups, TRX and more.  Participants will move along the course at their own pace.

Jeff Hawksley, fitness director and personal trainer at the Rangeley Fitness Center, spearheaded the project with the intention of providing an event that offers families of every fitness level an opportunity to participate. That’s why he has included both 5K and 10K options and the Children’s Mini-ROAR.

In fact, he encourages those new to fitness to walk the course for a donation or join the Healthy Community Coalition at the Fitness Center at 7:30, 8:30 or 9:30 a.m. for free instruction on walking with walking sticks, and a brief walk in the vicinity.

As added incentive to get moving and get healthy, Rangeley Fitness Center has coordinated with the Healthy Community Coalition to provide a free body composition analysis from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, by appointment, and the morning of the event from 7 a.m. to noon.

The analysis analyzes muscle mass percentage, body fat percentage and total body water. There will also be blood pressure, cholesterol and bone density checks in the mobile health unit.

The day will include prizes, music, food and drink. The Fitness Center will provide day care.

Rain or shine, the Children’s Mini-ROAR will begin at 9 a.m., followed by walkers at 9:15, and runners at 9:30. Registration is required and space is limited to 300 participants. Preregister online at www.RunInARace.com by Wednesday, Aug. 21, for a discount.

Late and event-day registration, which begins at 7:45 a.m., is on-site at Rangeley Fitness Center, 25 Dallas Hill Road, across from Rangeley Family Medicine.

All walker donations and entry fees from the Children’s Mini-ROAR registrants will help support children’s programs at the Rangeley Fitness Center.
