100 years ago, 1913
Dr. W.J. Renwick of Auburn has one of the finest summer homes in this section. The doctor did not go to the seashore or the mountains for this purpose, but preferred a place within the city limits and but four miles from his Goff Street home. It was a farm that he purchased, and was a good one, although containing but 40 acres. The purchase was made of A.B. Grant, and is known as the old Frye place. It is a beautiful spot overlooking Lake Auburn and is but a short distance away while in front is a long row of rock maples that afford a lovely shade. Of course, it is not an entirely new structure, but it has been completely remodeled and rebuilt, and is now a modern and up-to-date stand in every particular.

Fourteen states and two foreign countries were represented among the estimated 20,000 persons who flocked into the Central Maine Youth Center yesterday on the opening day of the third annual Maine Products Show. The opening day crowd surpassed the crowds which viewed the prior Products Shows at Augusta and Bangor on opening day. Even by mid-afternoon, it began to appear that the Lewiston show would top the record.

A controversial attendance policy that would have resulted in loss of credit for Lewiston High School students after 10 absences in a semester was rejected Monday evening by the School Committee on a 7-1 vote. The policy, meant to curb students’ skipping classes, called for a verbal warning after three absences from a class, a letter sent to parents after four absences, and a parent-teacher conference after seven absences. A loss of class credit would have resulted after the 10th day of absence per semester.
