HARTFORD — The Hartford Heritage Society will be hosting their second Antique Auto Show at the from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the J&O Irish Museum to raise money for the upkeep of the building.

President Rosie Henderson said that they first held an antique car show in 2011 and were planning to hold it in 2012 before thunderstorms forced them to cancel it. However, they’re planning to bring back the popular event this year, which brought 22 different antique cars to their show in the first year of its existence.

“It’s a pretty popular event around here,” Henderson said. “Back in 1977, the father of one of our residents, James Irish, passed away, and left us the building that eventually became the J&O Irish Museum. We used it to store certain items related to the town, but over time, it grew into a place where people could come for information about the town and the state, and as one of our fundraising ideas, we decided to do an antique car show.”

The event will be free to the public, though donations are accepted. There will also be tours of the museum, music and free ice cream sundaes. Hot dogs will be on sale, Henderson said, though there will be a minor charge for them.

“That’s how we raise our money for the building,” Henderson said. “Each year, we put aside the money we get and use it toward keeping the building in shape. Last year, we were able to refurbish the library.”

Henderson said that besides the antique auto show, the Heritage Society also hosts a plant sale every spring.

“The plant sale is our biggest event,” Henderson said. “Last year, we brought in $1,500. It was amazing to see the support.”
