ELLSWORTH — A local 17-year-old girl reported missing by her family on Sunday has been found safe and sound, according to police.

Cora Bishop was tracked down by her family at a friend’s house in the neighboring town of Otis, Ellsworth police Lt. Harold Page said Tuesday morning. He said Bishop’s family told police Tuesday that they went to pick her up and bring her back home.

Page said Bishop has a history of running away and couch-surfing at friends’ houses for a few days before returning home.

Bishop was reported missing by her family around 4 p.m. Sunday. According to information posted on the Ellsworth Police Department’s Facebook page, Bishop’s family had not seen her since before they went to church Sunday morning. When they returned from the service, Bishop was gone from their home.

Before Bishop was found, police had said that she has friends and relatives outside of Maine and that she may have been heading out of state.
