OGUNQUIT (AP) — Rescuers are searching for a 51-year-old man who went missing while on a late night cruise off the coast of Ogunquit.
A U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman said five people went on a pleasure trip on the vessel Clover late Thursday night.
About a mile off shore, some of them decided to go for a swim.
The 51-year-old man went missing while trying to help a woman who was struggling in the water. The Coast Guard received a distress call at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday.
A Coast Guard cutter and helicopter as well as the Wells and York fire departments and the Maine Marine Patrol searched for the man overnight. The search is expected to continue Friday.
The man’s name was not made public.
