AUGUSTA (AP) — A man who lived alone in the Maine woods for nearly three decades has pleaded not guilty to seven burglaries and six thefts.
Christopher Knight appeared in court Tuesday to answer to charges for the first time since his April arrest.
His lawyer and prosecutors told the Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/18ZVLHS ) they hope to resolve the case before it goes to trial in October. But there are some issues to be worked out first, including where he will live, what he will do, and what sort of counseling he will get.
He is being held on $25,000 bail.
Knight was arrested after police say they caught him stealing food from a camp in Rome. Authorities say he may be responsible for 1,000 burglaries in the 27 years he lived in the woods.
