1960 – 2013

PORTLAND — Virginia Grose Farrington, 52, of Farmington, passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, at Maine Medical Center.

She was born on Dec. 21, 1960, in Haverhill, Mass., the fourth child of Patricia Ann Breed and Francis Farrington Grose. As a child, she lived with her family for five years in Brazil, where the Groses worked as lay missionary teachers for the United Methodist Church. After returning from Brazil in 1971, she lived with her family in Groveland, Mass. She also lived briefly with her parents when they served as missionaries in Zimbabwe and Costa Rica.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Salem State University in Salem, Mass., and her master’s degree in clinical social work from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She was a licensed clinical social worker and spent part of her professional life working with troubled teens, as well as several years as a high school guidance counselor. She enjoyed artistic endeavors and was particularly drawn to the spirituality of Eastern religions.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Leelannee Farrington; her father, Francis Grose; her brother and his wife, Stephen and Lynda Grose; her sister and her husband, Pamela and Mark Welty; five nieces and nephews; and two grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her mother, Patricia Grose, who passed away in 2007; and by her brother, Brandon Grose, who passed away in 1976.
