The gallery at 112 Main Street will host a wine and cheese reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6. The show will run through Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Born in Palo Alto, Calif. and now a resident of Maine, Freeborn paints with oils on canvas, linen or wood panel. She was taught by family members as a child, inspired by a very special high school art teacher and furthered her education at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia.

Returning to painting after many years of developing an interior and landscape design business, Freeborn has chosen to focus on capturing the likeness and emotions of animals and the relationship between man and his canine best friend. She paints other animals as well.

The paintings convey the motion, shape and love she has for the animal with loosely applied sweeping brushstrokes. Using underpainting, thinning mediums and thick overpainting to sculpt her subjects on the canvas, she brings them to life in an unconventional form.

Freeborn shows her work in numerous galleries and centers and is currently working on paintings for a children’s book, written and designed by her two sisters.
