1936 – 2013

SOUTH PARIS — David A. Smith, 76, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, with his beloved family by his side.

David was born in Lewiston on Nov. 28, 1936, the son of Ira and Marion (Adams) Smith. He lived in Norway for most of his life. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a Korean War veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 150.

Upon his return to civilian life, he attended meat cutting school and worked many years as a butcher and meat manager. He retired in 1999 to spend more time doing the things he loved: cooking, traveling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Payne Smith; son, David A. Smith II and his wife, Mavis, and their daughters, Devin, Dusty and Daisie of Bedford, Mass.; two daughters, Davene Smith of New Gloucester and Danielle Donnell and her husband, Scott, and their children, Charlie and Poppy of Bend, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Shari Herrick and her husband, Stanley, and Lisa Hodgkins and her husband, Gary; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Florence Smith of Sarasota, Fla., Roberta Vrana of Pinellas Park, Fla., and Iris Parlin of Norway; and one brother, Ronald Smith of Gainesville, Fla.

He was very loved by his family and will be missed dearly.
