FRENCHVILLE — Two men were injured when the motorcycles they were each operating collided, Maine State Police reported Saturday.
Ronald Salisbury, 66, of Gorham, was listed in stable condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to state police. He suffered serious head and internal injuries in the accident, state police reported.
The other victim, Robert Boyle, 52, of Casco, was treated and released after being transported to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent.
At about 12:20 p.m. Friday, Boyle was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson northbound on U.S. Route 1 and was attempting to turn left into a parking lot, according to state police.
Salisbury, riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson, was a short distance behind Boyle.
As Salisbury was passing a vehicle between him and Boyle, he did not see that Boyle was making a left-hand turn, said state police. Salisbury’s motorcycle struck the rear tire of Boyle’s motorcycle, as Boyle turned left across the road into the parking lot.
Both men, neither of them wearing a helmet, were thrown from their motorcycles after the impact.
Salisbury initially was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center but later was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
