AUGUSTA — Maggie McConkey scored back-to-back goals in a five-goal outburst in the first half Sunday, boosting Central Maine Community College to a 6-1 women’s soccer victory over the University of Maine at Augusta.
Jenn Lola scored the lone goal for UMA on a direct kick with just under 10 minutes to play in regulation. Freshman goalkeeper Abby Peabody played a stellar first collegiate game, recording 12 saves for the Moose.
CMCC’s Amber Pritchard opened the scoring at 13:04, dropping a shot in the corner of the net on a pass from Gabby Ouellette. The Mustangs’ Mariah Larsen followed that up less than two minutes later, scoring on a breakaway.
McConkey then scored twice in the next 10 minutes before Mikayla Hamilton scored the final goal of the first half, giving CMCC the 5-0 lead at halftime.
UMF 2, Rivier 2
NASHUA, N.H. — The University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer team battled host Rivier to a 2-2 tie Sunday afternoon.
The Beavers (0-1-1) struck early as junior Keli McLellan netted her first goal of the season. McLellan collected a well-placed pass into the 18-yard box from freshman Katie Clark, and beat Raiders keeper Cassandra Brown in the 22nd minute.
UMF’s 1-0 advantage held into the second half, when Rivier’s Susan O’Loughlin redirected a blast from Mariah Payne past Farmington keeper Beth Lebel to knot the game at 1-1.
Alexandra Crocker again gave Farmington the lead in the 80th minute, breaking free with a through-ball from Bridget Humphrey and beating Brown one-on-one.
Rivier forced the extra sessions with just 3:22 remaining, when Lauren Tamposi scored off a deep ball from Meghan Caron. Neither team was able to produce a game-winning score in either overtime period.
Lebel tallied nine saves in the UMF goal, while Rivier’s Brown logged five saves.

CMCC 5, NMCC 4 (2 OT)
PRESQUE ISLE — Abdinasir Abdirahman scored the game-winning goal in double overtime, leading Central Maine Community College past Northern Maine Community College, 5-4, in a men’s soccer season opener.
CMCC rallied from a 3-1 halftime deficit on the strength of a goal and two assists by Dylan Mawhinney. Brandon Morissette also had a goal and an assist. Brady Fenderson and Darine Gnidehoue added goals for the Mustangs.

St. Joe’s 6, Johnson & Wales 0
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Saint Joseph’s College toppled Johnson & Wales University, 6-0, in a non-conference field hockey match on Sunday afternoon.
Junior forward Effie Drew scored a pair of goals in the one-sided triumph. She was joined on the scoring list for the Monks (3-0) by teammates Meghan Williams, Rachelle Messuri, Carley Denis and Kelsey Dumond.
