PARIS — The McLaughlin Garden and Homestead is sponsoring “Nature’s Colors: Dying Natural Fibers with Plants from the Garden” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. Dying workshop participants will take home hand-dyed fibers suitable for knitting or hooking.

Marty Elkin of a Wrinkle in Thyme will teach the group about the importance of mordants and modifiers, show how to prepare a dye bath and lead the participants in dying wool.

Knitters may bring white or light grey natural yarn while rug hookers should bring one or two fat quarters. Natural fibers from a Wrinkle in Thyme will be available to buy.

Some useful dye plants are wildflowers, while others are growing in the back of the McLaughlin Garden.

The cost is $25 (excluding wool). Call 743-8820 or stop by the garden gift shop at 97 Main St. to register.
