RUMFORD — The Mountain Valley High School Athletic Boosters is organizing a dress swap from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the gymnasium of Mountain Valley High School.

According to member Leanne Virgin, the purpose is to offer donated dresses to area students at reduced prices to raise money for the MVHS Boosters.

“We’re looking for donations of dresses to offer for Homecoming, semi-formal dances, March Madness and other events,” Virgin said in a news release. “We will then be offering them for $10 to any student in the area that needs to purchase a dress.”

“It’s a great way for parents to save all that time running around to find the perfect dress,” Virgin added.

It’s the first year that MVHS Athletic Boosters have attempted a dress swap, Virgin said, and was born out of an interest in “doing something new.”

“We’ve done the coaches vs. cancer basketball game, and have run the wrestling team concessions, but we were looking for something that only takes a day or so to run and is something we hadn’t done before.”

So far, the community reaction to the dress swap idea has been positive.

“We made a Facebook page for the dress swap event, and so far, everybody is saying, ‘Oh, this is a really good idea,’” Virgin said. “I’m just worried that we won’t have enough dresses for all the girls.”

Those interested in donating a dress can bring them directly to Mountain Valley High School prior to Sept. 21.
