1928 – 2013

LEWISTON — Pauline M. (Puiia) Aharonian, 85, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at her home in Lewiston, from which she was lifted to her heavenly home by the angels of eternity.

She was born in Mexico on June 2, 1928, the first and loving child of Antonio and Mary (DeSalle) Puiia. She was raised in Rumford with her five siblings, Joan (Stinnette) and Vito, both deceased, and Francis of Lewiston, Angela (Patrikus) of New Hampshire and Rita (Zanoni) of Mexico.

Pauline graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1947, after which she began her lifelong career with New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. She began in Rumford as an operator and later transferred to Boston and Southern New Hampshire, where she served the company in various roles for 37 years until her retirement. She then returned to Maine and made her home in Lewiston.

Pauline was a kind, loving and high-spirited individual, who was well liked by those she encountered along life’s way. She loved her family, moving in with her parents during their later years and caring for them until their passing. Through her generosity, she was able to assist her physically handicapped brother. She also reached out to her 13 nieces and nephews living throughout the country, wanting nothing but the best for them.

She enjoyed traveling, and on one journey, she went to Calabria, Italy, to visit her father’s family. At home, she maintained many of the traditions of her Italian heritage, including a strong spirituality with a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
