POLAND — The public is invited to celebrate a “book launch” of local children’s author, teacher and campground owner Tamra Wight.

The book launch will be held at the Poland Regional High School library from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. At the book launch, Wight will give a reading, said Whittier Middle School teacher Shannon Shanning.

Wight’s book is titled “Cooper and Packrat: Mystery on Pine Lake,” a chapter book intended for fourth- to sixth-grade readers about a boy and his friend who get involved in solving a mystery about loons on the lake.

Shanning, who last September was named the Maine Teacher of the Year, said the recently published book is being used in classrooms. She gives it high marks.

“It’s incredible,” Shanning said. “Fifth-graders are using the book in a read-aloud.”

The book has strong themes about the environment and loons, about solving a mystery, friendships, team building and integrity, Shanning said.

The book is published by Islandport Press.

This is Wight’s second book. Her first, “The Three Grumpies,” is a picture book.

Wight is an ed tech in Poland schools and speaks to classrooms about writing. She also owns the Poland Spring Campground on Route 26.
