PARIS — Abdi Hersi led a trio of players to register goals Wednesday as Lewiston hustled to a 3-0 victory over Oxford Hills in KVAC boy’s soccer action.

Kwebena Akuffo-Anoff and Maslah Hassan also tallied for the Blue Devils (4-1) to complete the scoring. Austin Wing needed only two saves to notch the shutout.

Jake Beauchesne turned aside six shots for the Vikings (1-3) in a solid effort. 

Dirigo 2, Mountain Valley 0

RUMFORD — Dirigo players managed to score a goal in each half Wednesday, enough to pull out a crisp 2-0 win over Mountain Valley in an MVC boys’ soccer tilt.

Jeremy Grignon tallied for the Cougars (1-4) in the first frame, while Oscar Deroche added an insurance goal in the second half.

Justin Grignon made nine saves for Dirigo, while Dakota Jacques turned aside five shots for Mountain Valley.

Spruce Mountain 4, Telstar 2

JAY — Tristen Begin led a group of four players to tally goals Wednesday as Spruce Mountain hustled to a 4-2 win over Telstar in more early-season boy’s soccer action. 

Adam Gettle, Shane Missler and Lucas Preble also tallied for the Phoenix (3-0-1) to complete the scoring. Nick Conrad led the Rebels (1-3-0) with a goal and one assist, while Liam Gallagher also tallied.

Dustin Jones made six saves for Spruce Mountain, while Bronson Dean turned aside 14 shots between the posts for Telstar.

Mt. Abram 6, Carrabec 0

SALEM —  Colin McCarthy-Edwards led a group of six players to register goals Wednesday as Mt. Abram rolled to a 6-0 rout over Carrabec in another boy’s soccer tilt.

Patrick Banahan, Sage Riendeau, Bryson Walker, Keegan Rolbecki and Trevor Brackley also tallied for the Roadrunners (3-2) to complete the scoring.

Tristen Dyer and Greg Siekman combined to make six saves to notch the shutout. Trent Richardson turned aside 12 shots for Carrabec.

Field Hockey

Dirigo 9, Boothbay 0

DIXFIELD — After sprinting out to a 5-0 advantage in the first half, Dirigo’s scoring machine revved even higher as they raced away with a 9-0 win over Boothbay in MVC field hockey action Wednesday.

Brittany LaPointe and Kelsey Wilson led the Cougars with two goals apiece. Haley Turner, Rylee L’Italien, Kelsey Hutchins, Emman Lueders and Ellie Wainwright also tallied to complete the scoring.

Amanda Dolloff needed only two saves to preserve the shutout. Erica Games turned aside 13 shots for the Seahawks.

Spruce Mountain 7, Mountain Valley 1

JAY —  LaDesta Tracy and Kayla Meserve each netted two goals Wednesday as Spruce Mountain overpowered Mountain Valley 7-1 in another MVC field hockey matchup.

Randi Duguay, Nicole Hamblin and Patty Ryan also tallied for the Phoenix (5-0-1) to complete the scoring. Lexy Duguay tallied for Mountain Valley (2-4) in the first half.

Kasey Richards made two saves for Spruce Mountain, while Kassie Thibodeau turned back 25 shots for the Falcons.

Lisbon 7, St. Dom’s 1

LISBON —  Arianna Kahler registered a hat trick to propel Lisbon to a 7-1 romp over St. Dom’s in another MVC tilt Wednesday.

Sarah Craig chipped in for the Greyhounds (4-0-1) with two goals, while single tallies by Cathy Pace and Molly Nickelson completed the scoring.

Olivia Chase scored the lone goal for St. Dom’s (1-4), while Tayler Bergeron made 21 saves. Stevie Charest needed only one save to notch the win for Lisbon.

Telstar 2, Hall-Dale 1

BETHEL — Becca Howard scored her second goal five minutes into the second half, lifting Telstar to a 2-1 victory over Hall-Dale in an early-season MVC matchup Wednesday.

Howard’s first goal came early with an assist from Autum Morin, making it a 1-0 contest. Lexi Moran answered for the Bulldogs (3-3) early in the second frame to create the 1-1 deadlock. 

Hali Barter made three saves for the Rebels (3-3), while Molly French turned back 16 shots between the posts for Hall-Dale.

College Field Hockey

Colby 4, UMF 0

WATERVILLE — Megan Fortier and McKayla Blanch scored goals in the first 4:09 of the contest as the Colby College field hockey team took a 4-0 non-conference win over University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday night at Bill Alfond Field.

The Mules are 3-1 overall heading into Saturday’s big home game against 17th-ranked Trinity College at 11 a.m. U-Maine-Farmington (1-2) put up a good fight, and still only trailed 2-0 with less than eight minutes to play.

Fortier started the scoring just 1:29 into the contest off a penalty corner. She took a pass from Kellie Walsh to the left side of the goal and blasted a shot for the score.

Fortier added an assist on the Blanch goal along with Misha Strage.  Fortier got the ball to Strage in the left corner and her centering pass was tipped in by Blanch.

Women’s Soccer

Bowdoin 2, Bates 0

LEWISTON — Kiersten Turner performed all the scoring Bowdoin needed in the fourth minute, but added a second score in the final minute as Bowdoin defeated Bates 2-0 in a NESCAC contest Wednesday.

The Polar Bears (3-0-1) outshot the Bobcats (2-3-0) by only an 8-6 margin in the first half, but controlled the second half to the tune of a 17-1 shot differential.

With 42:40 still remaining in the first half, Bowdoin’s Maya Norman gained control of the ball on the right wing near midfield after a Bates back lost possession. Norman passed about 20 yards over to Turner, who was open in the right corner of Bates’ penalty area. Turner turned, dribbled twice to get free of a Bates back and shot the ball beyond the reach of Bates goalie Anabel Schmelz, inside the far (left) post for a quick 1-0 Bowdoin lead.

UMaine-Farmington 5, Lyndon State 0

FARMINGTON —  Junior Jenna Silliboy scored twice and three other players added one goal apiece as the University of Maine at Farmington broke into the win column with a 5-0 triumph over Lyndon State College (Vermont) in a North Atlantic Conference match Wednesday.

Senior Kayla Tuttle scored the Beavers’ (1-3-1) first goal, gently tapping in a cross inside the six-yard box from fellow senior Renee Dupre in the 21st minute. Silliboy doubled the team’s lead to 2-0 in the 36th minute, finishing a cross from junior Ava Amador.

That 2-0 Farmington lead held up well into the second half, when the Beavers scored three goals in the span of six-and-a-half minutes to put the game away.
