FARMINGTON — A Connecticut man was extradited to Farmington on Thursday on a warrant charging unlawful sexual contact with a child under 18 years old, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said.
David Scott Rhoades, 45, of Taftville, Conn., formerly of Eustis, was arrested on the felony charge and two other warrants charging failure to appear on operating after license suspension.
Rhoades was recently arrested in Connecticut.
Franklin County Lt. David Rackliffe and Cpl. Nate Bean traveled to Connecticut to pick up Rhoades and return him to Maine, Nichols said.
In 2008, Lt. David St. Laurent investigated a report of a sex crime against a juvenile, Nichols said. The suspect, Rhoades, fled the state and an arrest warrant was issued, he said.
Rhoades is being held on $5,500 cash bail at the Franklin County jail in Farmington, a corrections officer said.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon but it was called off. He is expected to go before a judge on Monday.
A conviction for unlawful sexual contact carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
