PARIS — The Police Department’s bid for a cruiser from Lincolnville has been accepted.

Town Manager Amy Bernard told the Board of Selectmen at its Monday night meeting that the bid of $3,005 for the 2007 cruiser was accepted as the highest submitted. The equipment in the cruiser alone, she said, is worth more than $5,000.

Bernard said the cruiser comes equipped with a light bar, radio, radars, cameras and other equipment. The car will be used by the department’s detective to respond from home if necessary.

The money will come from the cruiser maintenance budget, Bernard said.

Like Paris earlier this year, residents in Lincolnville were faced with a decision to disband its police department which at the time consisted of only its police chief.

Lincolnville citizens petitioned asking that the town go from one officer to none to save money in the $80,000 annual police budget. Police Chief Ronald Young, the only police officer in town, was later named chief of Damariscotta. According to newspaper reports at the time of the vote, the petition passed in a 187-163 vote. The Maine State Police and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department now patrol the coastal town.
