I met my husband of 20 years in Aroostook County, where we both have family ties. Our love for life, travel and adventure leads us to many exciting and adventurous places. We have two loving pets, Sir Brussels and Mr. Jackson, who also love to travel with us.

Public offices sought or held?

After shying away from politics for many years I overheard someone being told “You have no right to talk if you don’t even vote” It made sense, so I enrolled and began educating myself . I have assisted in campaigns for various people running for public office, to include walking “door to door.”

Approximately five years ago I started working the voting polls in Lewiston and was appointed Warden of Central Voting / Absentee Voting two years ago.

Get involved by running for an office on the local level; Be flexible, don’t take anything personal, and most importantly remember “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care”.

What Maine political figure do you admire most?

Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman to serve in the House and Senate led the way for woman in politics. First stepping in for her husband when he passed away then winning election after election in her own right. Being a caring person, she was always known for voting her conscience.

On more of a personal note,  my mother has shared numerous stories of visiting and having tea with Margaret while summering in Skowhegan.

What has Mayor Robert Macdonald done during the past two years that you agree with? What has he done that you disagree with?

I believe Mayor Robert MacDonald tells it like it is, is willing to listen to the people of Lewiston and does not want to perpetuate Lewistons’ reputation of a welfare city.

What has the city council done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

I agree with most decisions of the City Council including banning panhandling, although there is nothing put in place to enforce it. I disagree with how the majority of the council members do not listen to the tax payers.

What has the city administrator and the city staff done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

I agree wholeheartedly in the city administrator and staff putting together and implementing a Downtown Neighborhood Action Committee. I disagree with the letter of support recently giving for a housing project that states the city will sell the land for $1.00, gives the buyers a waiver on applications, building permit fees, a reduction in code enforcements and a return of 50 percent of tax revenue for 15 years.

What has the school committee done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

Having no children, but being an educator and caring for the next generation, I believe the committee should listen to the concerns of the parents.

What should be done with Bates Mill No. 5?

I am open to projects that will produce revenue for the city.

Any last words?

“I care and will listen”
