PARIS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School senior Amy Peet will perform this month as a member of the 2013 All-National Honor Choir sponsored by the National Association for Music Education.

The Norway resident will join more than 670 high school students from around the country for a gala concert at the Presidential Ballroom of the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., on Oct. 30.

“It is the greatest honor that I have had to be chosen to go to this festival. I have been very excited for it ever since I found out that I made it,” Peet said.

Peet is one of only 12 Maine students selected for the honor.

“We could not be prouder of Amy’s accomplishments” said Dennis Boyd Jr., choir director at the high school. “We are excited that she is representing our community and our state at the national level.”

According to a statement from concert organizers, Peet and the other students will prepare “remarkably challenging music,” and perform it under the baton of four of the most prominent conductors in the United States: Dr. Peter Boonshaft, Miriam Burns, Rollo Dilworth and Rodney Whitaker.

The concert band and symphony orchestra will each have approximately 150 instrumentalists, the jazz ensemble will have 20 instrumentalists, and the mixed chorus will have approximately 350 vocalists. Eligible students have qualified for their state-level honor ensemble program and competed against top students for a spot in these national honor ensembles.

In addition to her work in the school choir, Peet plays the flute in band and piccolo for the marching band. She also sings in the school’s chamber choir and helps out with the elementary band.

Peet also runs track, plays field hockey, worked with the Responsible Pet Care show, Christmas For Teens benefit shows and community shows. She hopes to further her music education in college next year.

Peet must raise the money to attend the Oct. 30 concert. Anyone who would like to contribute toward the cost can donate through the Oxford Hills Music, Art and Drama Boosters, c/o Kyle Jordan at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, 256 Main St., South Paris, ME 04281.
