RUMFORD — The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Senior Citizens Fall Frolick from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the Rumford Eagles Club, according to Administrative Assistant Linda Hooker.

Hooker, who has helped administrate the program for the last 15 years, said this may be the last one the Sheriff’s Office hosts, since she is due to retire this year.

“I have no idea if they’ll be continuing the program after I retire,” she said. “It started 15 years ago, after the sheriff at the time, Sheriff Lloyd Herrick, received a grant from the state. The grant allowed us to put on the event, and I’ve administrated it ever since.”

For the past 10 years, the Fall Frolick has become self-sufficient through fundraisers and donations, Hooker said, and this year’s event will be paid for with money still on hand.

The Fall Frolick is a part of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office’s TRIAD (The Right Idea and Direction) program, which focuses on crime prevention for senior citizens.

Hooker said the event has been held at the Rumford Eagles Club for the last three or four years and is free to the public.

“There’s going to be cider, coffee and donuts for anybody who attends, and later, there’s going to be a lunch and dessert,” Hooker said. “I know there’s going to be live entertainment, though I’m not sure who it is. I think the Rumford Eagles will be finding somebody.”

Among the other activities at the Fall Frolick are door prizes and nickel bingo.

“I have some leftover door prizes from previous years, and sometimes, we get people who donate things to us,” Hooker said.
