EMBDEN — A 15-year-old boy was charged with arson on Friday after a home under construction was set alight.

Anson, Madison and New Portland fire departments responded to a blaze at 9 Brooks Drive at about 1:11 p.m. on Friday, according to Anson Fire Chief Jeremy Manzer. The two-story home was already fully engulfed in flames, he said.

The home was under construction and had no interior walls at the time. A mother with two boys and one girl were living in the home and a camper out front, according to Manzer and State Fire Marshal Joe Thomas.

“There was a dispute over the property, which was difficult for one of the juvenile males to handle and he consequently set the fire,” said Thomas, who declined to offer further details on the boy’s motive.

The 15-year-old boy was charged with arson and then released to the custody of his mother, he said.

The home was completely destroyed, but it was insured, said Thomas. It took crews about an hour to put out the fire, said Manzer. There were no injuries.

“Everything is concluded by us. It will be turned over to the district attorney’s office,” said Thomas.

The boy, whose name is being withheld by authorities because he is a juvenile, is scheduled to appear in Skowhegan District Court on Nov. 9.

If he is charged as an adult, the Class A charge carries a term of up to 30 years in prison and a maximum fine of $50,000.
