MONMOUTH — “Five Secrets of Making a Pumpkin Arrangement” will be presented by Valerie Dawes, master flower designer, at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Cumston Hall’s lower level.

Learn how to create a pumpkin centerpiece from fresh off the vine through carving, lining and filling with an arrangement of fresh flowers. The demonstration arrangement will be given away at the meeting. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. The public is invited.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Oct. 10 were: first, Steve Agurkis and Roger Labbe; second, Don Haley and Gerry Therrien; third, Simonne Paul and Arnie Burgess; fourth, Vicki Thayer Adams and Linda Williams; fifth, Donald Maillette and Aaron Burke.

Chicken pie supper Oct. 18

MONMOUTH — The East Monmouth Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual chicken pie supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at East Monmouth Church Vestry, Route 135.

The meal will feature homemade chicken pot pies, cole slaw, squash, baked beans, rolls, apple crisp with real whipped cream, punch and coffee. Adults $8, children $4.

AUGUSTA — B.J. McCollister of Maine Citizens for Clean Elections will give an informational talk at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Lithgow Public Library, 45 Winthrop St. The program, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Reading Room. There will be an opportunity for questions.

MCCE is a nonpartisan organization that works in the public interest to advocate for, increase public support for, defend and improve the Maine Clean Election Act and related campaign finance law.

Freemasons open house Oct. 19

LISBON FALLS — Freemasons of Maine, Ancient York Lodge No. 155 of Lisbon Falls and the Grand Lodge of Maine, will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Masonic Lodge located on Lisbon Street.

Members of Ancient York Lodge comprised largely of Lisbon and Lisbon Falls residents belong to a society dedicated to the principle of “making good men better,” by providing opportunities for fellowship, charity, education and leadership while creating friendship and understanding between men without regard to nationality, religion, race, background or opinion.

The open house is being held to raise awareness of who the Freemasons are and what they do.

State Beekeepers Annual Meeting

PORTLAND — The Maine State Beekeepers Annual Meeting will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Italian Heritage Center, 40 Westland Ave. Registration deadline is Oct. 15.

Three speakers will focus on honeybee sustainability in the Northeast.

Dr. Deborah Delaney from the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware studies unmanaged honeybee populations. Her talks will give an overview of the work being done in that field and how it can guide our practice.

Kirk Webster has owned and operated Champlain Valley Bees & Queens in Middlebury, Vt., since 1986. The apiary has been completely treatment-free since 2002 and is well known for producing strong Russian queens and nucs as well as honey. Making nucs in midsummer for over-wintering are key in his management system and are the best way we have to help the survivability our hives.

Tony Jadczak, Maine State Apiarist since 1983, will present an overview of hive health in Maine during 2013.

Lakeside ‘tea,’ initiating

WALES — On Saturday, Oct. 19, Lakeside Chapter will have a “Tea Party” for volunteers from the Fire Department, School Department and Food Bank of Wales and Sabattus from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Grange Masonic Building, 322 Centre Road.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, Lakeside will be initiating candidates at 7 p.m. at the Grange Masonic Hall. Lady officers are asked to wear white, gentlemen dark suits or tuxes. There will be light refreshments by the officers.
