DAMARISCOTTA (AP) — Damariscotta’s seventh annual Pumpkinfest is ending on a wet note.

The Pumpkinfest kicked off Oct. 5 and ends Monday with a regatta on the Damariscotta River featuring people piloting giant, carved-out gourds that have been transformed into boats. There are separate “Paddleboat” and “Powerboat” divisions.

All teams in both divisions will be competing for the coveted “Golden Gourd” trophies.

Races are launched from the Damariscotta Harbor Public Landing. The regatta can be viewed harbor-side, or via a “live feed” into the Lincoln Theater.

Other events during the festival include a giant pumpkin contest, parades, pumpkin catapults and pie-eating and dessert-making contests.
